Stranger Things fans are devastated after Netflix confirmed when the popular sci-fi series will finish for good, with many saying they don’t want it to end.
Currently, seven episodes of the fourth season are available to watch on the streaming site, which announced in an update to viewers that the last two – titled ‘Papa’ and ‘The Piggyback’ – will be landing at the beginning of next month, with the finale being a feature-length spectacle.
However, that’s not all Netflix has confirmed, having also tweeted about the future of the show beyond that:
Yes, once season four wraps up in July, fans will be treated to only ‘one more season,’ as the sci-fi blockbuster hit wraps up with a fifth and final season.
While the show’s creators, Matt and Russ Duffer, had previously said in an open letter that season five would be the final season, it appears that many viewers were disappointed by Netflix’s announcement.
“Hell no, I don’t want it to end,” one person tweeted.
“Who knew a tweet could both delight and upset me in one go!” someone else exclaimed.
A third person wrote: “Definitely not! Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please”
“I can’t… we all grew up with these characters!!” said a fourth.
Many others called for a spin-off, with one saying: “We need a spin off series or something, maybe like Twilight Zone, different strange stories every episode based in Hawkins? OR a series set in the world today with the Upside Down making a comeback with a new gang? Or a prequel series set before the 80s with a young Hop and Joyce!”
With filming on series five yet to begin, the Duffer Brothers have acknowledged they’ll likely have to address the inevitable ageing that takes place.
