On Thursday, Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that Russia’s invasion aims to “destroy Ukraine and to break Europe via Ukraine.”
Zelensky informed his colleagues at a joint press conference in Kyiv with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis that Russia’s aggression on Ukraine was an attack on all of Europe:
“Russia wants to show that an unified Europe is ineffective and that European principles are ineffective in defending freedom. We can, and should, defy this scenario by demonstrating that Europe will remain free, democratic, and united “he stated
Supporting Ukrainian integration into the European Union, Zelensky said, is the best way to demonstrate “our common and strong position,” adding that Ukraine’s status as a candidate for EU membership “can amplify freedom in Europe historically and become one of the key European decisions of the first third of the twenty-first century.”
Ukraine, according to Zelensky, is ready to move toward full EU membership.
“We understand that that the path to the European Union is really a path and it is not one step. But this path must begin, and we are ready to work so that our state is transformed into a full member of the European Union, and Ukrainians have already earned the right to embark on this path,” he said.
To confront Russian aggression, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has urged EU leaders to grant his country fast-track membership through a streamlined procedure.
The total number of Russian missiles used against Ukraine’s civilian population has “already reached 3,000 this month,” according to Zelensky, who also stated that the sooner Ukraine receives more powerful weapons from the West, the faster it will be able to stop the Russian attacks.
“The number of saved Ukrainians is equivalent to each delivery of such goods. Every day that we delay or postpone choices, the Russian military has an opportunity to kill Ukrainians or destroy our towns. There is a clear link: the more powerful weaponry we acquire, the faster we will be able to liberate our people and our land “According to Zelensky.
